WHO HAS TO GET A WORK PERMIT
-
A foreign national selling goods and taking money from con attendees will need a work permit
-
Those who are NOT Canadian and are just planning to SUPERVISE Canadians handling the sales money do not need a permit.
-
If you are just demonstrating goods at your booth, you do not need a permit. (example of this is a booth demoing a videogame)
**FIND OUT IF YOU NEED A TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA OR AN ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION HERE: (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp) **
WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF GETTING A WORK PERMIT
-
If you do not require a Temporary Resident Visa, you can apply for a Work permit at a Canadian port of Entry. Be sure to tell the Primary officer that you are applying for a permit, they will send you to immigration.
-
Processing for a permit may take time, consider that in your travel plans
-
You MUST have proof of citizenship. Immigration officer will ask you for a photo ID (passport) and ask a few questions (what are your reasons for travel, how long will you be in Canada, etc)
** NOTE TO U.S. ARTISTS AND VENDORS: a driver's license, social security card, vehicle ownership or work identification do not prove citizenship. Contact your nearest Canadian consulate or check http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/ for details regarding what does and what does not prove citizenship.
It is now required under U.S. Law that you MUST be in possession of a passport or a Nexus card if traveling by air into Canadian land. Those traveling by car/bus/etc may use an enhanced driver’s license or enhanced state identification card in addition to these documents. You will NOT be allowed in Canada borders if you fail to provide proper identification.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST?
-
The cost of a work permit in Canada is 150 CDN per person. This must be paid DIRECTLY at point of Entry. You can ONLY PAY THIS AMOUNT in Canadian cash, U.S. cash, Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.
You can find the exchange rate for your country here (http://www.x-rates.com/calculator/?from=CAD&to=USD&amount=1) -
FAILURE to comply will result in denied entry into Canada
-
MISREPRESENTATION at the border and latter discovery of misrepresentation will result in arrest, imprisonment, and /or fines, along with immediate deportation and forfeit of entire stock of merchandise.
-
If you do NOT have a Resident Alien Status in the USA (a green card)/ not a US CITIZEN, and are not from a visa exempt country - and will be acting as a dealer/taking money - you MUST arrange your Work Permit with the CANADIAN EMBASSY near you.
DO FRIENDS AND FAMILY NEED A WORK PERMIT?
-
Only people who will be handling transactions/ taking money from convention attendees need the workers permit.
Here at FannibalFest we welcome dealers/artists from around the world and will make every attempt possible to ensure that your working-visit was an easy and enjoyable one!
